An Ode to the Plaridel

An Ode to the Plaridel

After a long wait, Ibarra has finally unveiled a new watch collection that will certainly make heads turn. The Trofeo Collection is set to be the next big thing for Ibarra, and its first model, the "1898," named to commemorate the celebration of the 125 years of Philippine independence and nationhood, is an ode to its first flagship watch, the Plaridel.

The Trofeo 1898 is a versatile dress watch that aims to offer the best of both worlds – timeless elegance and contemporary style. It pays homage to the Plaridel with its clean dial featuring railroad tracks and Arabic numerals. But, there are several key differences between the two timepieces.

The 1898 features a 31x31mm square-shaped case that gives it a cleaner and dressier look than the Plaridel. It also doesn't have a date function, further simplifying the design. The watch's most significant design update is its enamel dial, which elevates the classic aesthetic of the timepiece. In addition, the 1898 now boasts a flat sapphire glass that provides added strength and scratch resistance preserving the watch's luster and shine.

One of the most notable differences between the Plaridel and the 1898 is the movement. The 1898 houses a Miyota 9T33 movement from Citizen, allowing the timepiece to be exceptionally thin at only 6.2mm. This thinness makes it the perfect dress watch, as it can easily slide into the sleeve of a dress shirt.

The Trofeo 1898's design is a testament to Ibarra's commitment to quality and attention to detail. Every aspect of the watch, from the dial to the movement, has been carefully considered to ensure that the timepiece meets the brand's high standards.

Its classic yet contemporary design, combined with its slimness and reliability, make it an ideal dress watch for any occasion. As Ibarra embarks on this new chapter in its journey, the Trofeo Collection is undoubtedly a fitting way to start.
